Karen White Family Vacation

My earliest memories from my childhood involve family vacations spent squished between my two older brothers in the middle of the back seat of the family sedan, my legs sticking to the vinyl seat cushions as I studiously avoiding colliding with the blows from my brothers’ fists as their constant fighting didn’t pause even during long car trips. The whole experience calls to mind the tag line from that Robin Williams’ movie, RV: “On a family vacation, no one can hear you scream.”  Read more >

About Me:

I am the published author of 14 novels—including 2011’s New York Times bestseller The Beach Trees.  I write what I refer to as “grit lit”—Southern women’s fiction, and I also write a mystery series set in Charleston (The House on Tradd Street, The Girl on Legare Street and this November’s The Strangers on Montagu Street).

I’m the mother of two teenagers (thank you for your sympathy) and one Havanese dog named Quincy (my favorite child).  I live with them and my husband in the suburbs of Atlanta where I spend my time (when not writing), dreaming of the beach, reading, scrapbooking, playing piano, and avoiding cooking.

I’m a graduate of the American School in London and Tulane University where I studied business.  After working in the business world for a number of years, I finally saw the light and quit my job to be a stay-at-home mother and wannabe writer.  My first novel was published in 2001.  I currently write for New American Library (Penguin Publishing Group) and am contracted for five more novels.  This should keep me—and my readers—busy for the next three years.
