Off for the Summer

Next week my husband and I will head north to Pennsylvania. We have a little cabin in the woods and on a small lake. The cabin was built by my grandfather and father and uncle in the 1920's. We have adding a few modernizations, but it is still it's rustic self. We see many wild animals while we are there. I will write about sighting in future blogs. This is a place I have been to every year of my life except one. I know every tree and every path. I love the woods and this place is a spiritual home for me. I can rest deeply there and get in touch with nature and God.  Read more >

I am inspired by Dietrich Bonhoeffer

I have just finished a book called "Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy" by Eric Metaxas. It is about the famous theologian, Dietrich Bonhoeffer. He lived during the years leading up to the reign of the Third Reich in Germany and during those years. He opposed Hitler is his writings and sermons and speeches. He believed that Christians should seek to know the will of God and then take concrete action in the world in which they find themselves. He taught at an illegal seminary of the Confessing Church which opposed the Hilter run German Christians.  Read more >

12 Step Recovery and Me

I have been in 12 Step recovery for many years. I initially began because of my co-dependency. The steps gave me  a clear path back to a life of integrity. I later went for my addiction to food - overeating and dieting. I now have a daily reprieve from that disease by the grace of a Higher Power. The 12 Steps are wise. They start with admitting I am powerless over the compulsions that had run my life. I am not powerless over many things, but my behavior showed that I was power over these compulsive behaviors.  Read more >

I am a Big Obama fan

I am a big fan of President Obama. He inherited crisis after crisis and he kept us from sinking into depression. His presidency so far hasn't been perfect but capital hill has been so polarized it was hard for him to get even compromise proposals through. He did, however, pass Obamacare, and a number of environmental initiatives amoung many other achievements. I have a nephew who is a rheumatologist and he is praying that the Supreme Court doesn't strike down key provisions of Obamacare. My nephew says it will be a disaster if it doen't go into effect.  Read more >

About Me:

I am an artist, teacher, retreat leader, spiritual director  and  writer whose work is centered in the relationship between art, spirituality and healing. My sculpture (including the permanent nativity for the Washington National Cathedral) and my painting have been exhibited in many venues around the country. Because I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I have a passion for helping other survivors through art retreats and individually. I write and speak about my story and about abuse. I have a touring show of artwork related to my story and am working on a book. I am also involved in mission work: a addiction program in Romania, a baby rescue home in Haiti, and teaching in Tanzania.
