Cookery

I'm not a great cook. I'm not a picky eater, but I prefer simple foods, therefore I only cook simple dishes. Also, I do not cook a lot of meat dishes. So at family events I often contribute appetizers or desserts. This weekend we have four events to attend. I will be making cookies, apple pies, deviled eggs, pickle platter, veggie platter, dip, more cookies, million dollar salad, and pozole. I also ordered tamales. We joke around that I don't so much "cook" as "assemble". Nevertheless, all my dishes come back empty. And no one ever complains that there's not enough.  Read more >

Home

I grew up in a small close-knit community. I have a large extended family. I was surrounded by love and good wishes, yet I couldn't wait to go away to college.. I left home at seventeen and between college, marriage, grad school, and work, I lived two to twenty hours away from "home". Of course I still visited a lot, but it wasn't the same as having aunts and cousins just a few blocks away. When my husband and I moved back here eight years ago, I really didn't expect that we would stay this long. I thought we would miss "big city living" and move within a year or two.  Read more >

the foosball

I know just enough about football to follow a game and care only enough to sit through two per year. The Super Bowl is an event because my husband loves it so much and I love to see him enjoying it so I watch, too. Well, I sit in the same room and catch up on magazines and crafting in between glances at the TV and watching the good commercials. The other is the Big Game between my alma mater and our main football rival. Most years it isn't televised so we go to parties where the game is telecast and we get to hang out with friends.  Read more >

Trivia

My hobbies (addictions? obsessions?) are reading, journaling, crafting, and learning new stuff.

When I have a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day, I crave dessert.

I love Scrabble, chocolate cake, symmetry, Christmas music, fountain pens, containers, and fresh-squeezed lemonade.

Home

My house is fifteen miles from the beach and just ten miles away from my childhood home, (though I lived far, far away for a long time.) It's small-town America, where downtown is a four-block stretch of Main Street and there's always room for another beribboned dog in the parade.

Books

I read at least two books a week and way too many magazines. I have To-Be-Read stashes all over the house.

Check out my bookshelves on GoodReads or photos of my actual bookshelves.

I trade books on Swaptree, BookMooch and PaperBackSwap.
