My Life with Tori Amos: Whose Music Changed You?

Originally posted on ThoseGraces.comOne hot summer afternoon in 1998, my older sister picked me up from field hockey camp, and when I got in the car, she turned on a tape I don’t remember my exact words, but they were something along the lines of, “What is this?! This is horrible!”...more

Start Out Your New Year By Helping With a Great Project

And out of adversity a great advocacy project was born. Creating a union between a foundation and a compression sleeve company, Susan is working to bring these sleeves to cancer survivors who can't afford the cost. And she is opening up this project to all of us -- and here is what you can do to help. ...more

Sexual Harassment is Adult Bullying (and It's Alive and Well)

This week I was reminded I was a woman. Not in an empowering, positive way, but in a objectifying, belittling, humiliating way. This week, though, in under an hour, I was reminded that smart, attractive women with ideas aren't always welcome. In fact, we are threatening and must be demoralized so as to prevent any inclination to rise up and do more than stay at home with the kids. ...more

"The Sing-Off" Recap: Is This Real-Life "Glee?"

Well, it's certainly better singing than we've heard on American Idol or America's Got Talent lately, I will totally give them that! I'm a choir geek, but I've never quite achieved full Gleek status. I love the singing on Glee, but often find the storylines less compelling...when they exist at all. So, really, The Sing-Off is the perfect show for me...all of the singing, none (or very little) of the manufactured drama, usually featuring a neurotic or shrewish woman. ...more

Should Expectant Moms Be Discouraged From Inducing Labor?

Are you pregnant and living in Minnesota? Guess what: if you find yourself wanting to induce your labor, you might be up against some obstacles, because the state of Minnesota would really prefer that you not do that, thank you very much. It's poised to pass legislation requiring expectant mothers to fill out extensive paperwork if they want to be induced, in an effort to reduce the rate of induced labors in that state. ...more

How to Deliver Great Meals to New Parents

Though I'm not a parent myself, I'm clear on this fact: Parents have to eat, and new parents have plenty to juggle without having to think about food. This is why I've always tried to be the friend who, at some point, shows up at my new-parent friends' houses with a casserole, roast chicken dinner, or other food that they can just reheat when they're ready. They've got enough on their plates ... but they need nourishment, too! ...more

Katy Perry Cut From Sesame Street For Turning Moms On

Does Breastfeeding Cause Divorce?

Admittedly, most talk of the health care bill and the state of medical care in our country causes my eyes to glaze over. (Apologies to my many friends who are talented, valuable doctors.) But this spring, new research was released with quite a splash, catching my attention. ...more

My Husband's Ex-Wife Reads My Blog.

She doesn't just read it, actually...she searched for it, found it, reads it A LOT and leaves snarky comments on it which she thinks are anonymous .It's been 10 years since their divorce and still she stalks.  She's very jealous and bitter, very mean-spirited, very woe-is-me. As a result of all of her antics, I took my 2-year-old, 500+ posts blog down and started a new, anonymous blog. Now I find that I am missing the original blog....more

I'm so sorry, and I completely understand.
