Seafood. Summer. It's a Match!

I love San Diego's farmers markets. Yesterday, I drove about 10 miles up the I-15 to meet my friend Gayle at the Scripps Ranch Farmers Market. And, one of my favorite vendors, Majestic Garlic, was there. I've been enjoying their products for about a year. They make a vegan garlic paste in a variety of flavors and I've been working my way through them as I discover new ways to use it. Recently, I stopped by a local Middle Eastern market in San Diego and was noodling around the packaged foods when I found a bag of unpelted wheat offered by Sadaf. Looked interesting so I brought it home. I couldn't find any reference to it except that it is used in Iranian cooking for a recipe called sabzi, to celebrate the New Year.  Read more >

I am nothing if not a foodie. But, by day I'm also an award-winning freelance writer and host of San Diego Foodstuff (www.sandiegofoodstuff.com). Along with the serious stuff that pays the bills, I've enjoyed years of travel writing, with visits to Australia, Canada (both coasts), England, France, Amsterdam, Baja California and lots of U.S. cities. I've tasted big fat Moreton Bay Bugs in Brisbane and smoked eel fresh from the local factory in Amsterdam, tiny wild strawberries I picked roadside in the Magdalene Islands and the juiciest possible rotisserie chicken, accompanied by flavorful socca pancakes, in Nice's Old City.
