Things I Love: Five Beauty Tips Every Mama Needs to Know for Spring

Today the weather was in the 70′s for the first time in six months – Helloooooooo springtime in Minnesota! To celebrate this fab weather, we fired up the grill and had fresh brats for dinner. Ricky and I took Lucy for a long walk. We actually ENJOYED the weather. It was amazing. Now, one other thing that I always start thinking about when the weather starts changing is my skincare and makeup – because those things change with the seasons as well. There are three things that I immediately do when it starts to heat up outside:...more

We’re Having A…Girl!

That’s right, we found out on Friday that the newest addition to our little family will be a bouncing bundle of PINK! You can imagine my excitement. I LOVE having a little boy – Ricky is the best. But having one of each…oh, my heart goes pitter patter. Especially to think of all the fun little outfits that will soon be invading our home. Because we all know that shopping for boys is good and great, but there is just MORE out there for little girls. And yes, I will be the mom who coordinates her children. I see sailor photo shoots in their future....more

Six years later and I still react to memories of the attack.

It’s been over six years since I was attacked by a stranger outside of my old apartment. And I thought I was completely over it. Apparently, I’m not. This morning my little man got up at five. Just what every mama wants…a crabby, super early riser on Saturday morning. But at our house, we make the best of these things. We got up, had breakfast and hung out with the puppies. We played with blocks. We watched a little Disney. And then he went down for a nap....more

Four Tips for Encouraging Toddlers to Eat Well

One of the hardest things with having a toddler – well, with having a child of any age, probably – is teaching them to be healthy eaters. It’s a big topic in our house right now, mostly because becoming a fully-fledged toddler means my baby boy is making more of his food decisions for himself. So, how do I have a child who eats lots of fruits and veggies, lots of “different” foods (like hummus and bbq ribs) and will always try whatever’s on mama’s plate? Well, let me give you my tricks of the trade. Not that they’re miracle workers. But they do help....more

The four toys my baby couldn’t live without

Some days, I thank my lucky stars that my baby has certain toys that he’s just so infatuated with. Because when we come home from a busy day and need something to keep a meltdown at bay between dinner and bedtime, a toy distraction is key. If we didn’t have these amazingly engaging toys, we would be up such a crick without a paddle. It would mean my entire main level got torn apart as soon as the crabby toddler syndrome hit every night. Chairs pushed from the dining room to the carpet in the living room and subsequently tipped over. Dog bowls kicked from room to room....more

19 Weeks Pregnant: It’s going so fast!

I can’t believe we’re almost to the halfway point already. And I know that I keep saying it – but this pregnancy is going SO DANG FAST. I was thinking about that a little bit today, and it actually got me a little emotional (which I will one hundred percent blame on my pregnancy hormones….). When I was pregnant with Ricky, it felt like we were just counting down the days until we hit another week in the pregnancy. This time around, I don’t even know where the weeks went....more

The 5 things we're gonna do in April. Now that it's spring.

It’s official (or at least, I hope it’s official): Spring is here! The snow is melting, the temp is warming and my winter hibernation is ending. It’s actually supposed to hit 60 degrees here today in the frigid tundra. Minnesotans are jumping for joy – and you think I’m kidding. When I saw the weather this morning, I did a little happy jump. Because it has been THAT LONG since we have seen real temperatures. Or, should I say, temperatures above freezing. AHHH! Excitement abounds in my house!...more

And…my belly popped out.

When you’re pregnant, you check yourself out in the mirror. A lot. It’s not because you’re so much more vain than you were pre-pregnancy. It’s not because you want to look at your outfit twelve times a day. It’s because you’re waiting for that magical moment when your belly pops. That moment when you go from looking like you might’ve gained a few pounds to actually looking pregnant. And for this mama, it happened this week....more

18 Weeks Pregnant: Feeling those baby kicks

When you’re pregnant for the first time, you start questioning everything for baby kicks and flutters and flips. And then around week 20, you actually DO start to feel them and it’s like your whole world changes. The pregnancy – and the fact that you’re halfway to holding your baby in your arms – becomes real. You start to recognize all of the real movements and jump with delight every single time you feel something. It’s amazing....more
