Making Your Own Velveeta Is Easier Than You Think

Editor's note: The #Cheesepocalypse is nigh, at least that’s what everyone’s been saying on Twitter. It turns out that there is indeed a shortage of Velveeta—and just when the Superbowl is a few short weeks away. Kraft Foods has confirmed that its supply of Velveeta is low. But don’t despair, we’ve got this DIY Velveeta recipe from our archives, so you don’t have to go without. --Jane ...more

This Blog Isn’t Quite Dead Yet.

I decided to take a break from writing this blog. The short time period turned into a three to four month long break.  This was not exactly what I planned....more

New Orleans Vacation Installment Two

The second day of our New Orleans vacation found us waking up in a very nice hotel room with an amazing view.  As always I could not sleep. I woke up and attempted to blog about yesterday's post and had no wireless signal....more

New Orleans Vacation Installment One.

It has been a tough time for the last few months to attempt to write my blog.  I make everything by myself and use the funds from a percentage of my pay from a part time job to pay for the trials. The job has been more off than on so it has been harder for me to purchase supplies. I have also been having a tough time writing.  Between the Peri menopuase and just feeling at loose ends since coming back from New Orleans I just haven't written lately.  I also have had trouble not speaking my mind about a few controversial news items....more

Food Truck Wars, May 2013

This past Saturday we attended what I hope will be the first of many more events.  We attended the Food Truck Wars in Palm Bay, Florida.   We had never experienced this type of event, but were very interested in seeing the types of foods and the trucks. There were 40 different food trucks with the majority being Bar B Q and various Hispanic food offerings.  One of the trucks was called the Crabby Chris. I tried to get my Chris to get his picture taken with the logo. He didn't think that was funny.  I did though....more

Eating Changes Over Time

Well we did it.  We officially did it!  No more guilty pleasures late at night.  No more smelling up the house because I slightly burned the popcorn.  There is one less processed food in my pantry.  The microwave popcorn is gone!  We have switched to regular popcorn and an air popper.  This means the only things left that are processed in the pantry is Peanut butter, a couple of noodle mixes, one Uncle Ben's rice mix, salad dressing, and some prepared mustard.  I am so proud of us....more

What True Heroes Are To Me

It has been about two weeks since I last posted this blog.  So much has happened that I really don't know what to say.  I've written this post over and over again in my head.  There is so much to say and yet it has all been said by everyone.  I have felt as though what I had to say about saving money wasn't important. I just couldn't organize my thoughts and get it on paper....more

How to Substitute Baking Ingredients

I love to cook. I bet you never knew that. Lol. Cooking is very therapeutic for me. I find baking bread, making a pizza that tastes good, or attempting just about anything baking- or cooking-wise relaxes me and gives me confidence. I have spoken repeatedly about how little my grocery budget is. I have a crazy small budget that has to cover pet food, personal products, paper products, and just about anything else you can think of that can possibly be put on the grocery budget. Making great-tasting meals from that budget has become a worthy goal....more

Living Frugally Does Not Mean Scrimping!

Frugal living doesn't mean scrimping on everything and every purchase.  It means prioritizing what you should do with the monies that are left over after you paid off your installment loans, credit cards, student loans, and possibly your mortgage.  Once you have paid those off, and pay your monthly bills, set up an emergency fund, and have contributed to a retirement savings account then you have spending money....more

Learning To Take Care of Me

Lately I have been dealing with me.  Rather taking care of me.  No, I don't mean running around doing whatever I want! This would be fun, but boring after a while.  Instead I am doing things to take care of myself.  Thanks to my list making I am now taking my vitamins twice a day, washing my face, brushing my teeth, flossing (of course I have never had an issue doing that!) twice a day, and now writing down my meals every day....more
