How is it that Kanye West, an intelligent artist very much in control of his image, didn't think about the repercussions of representing women in such a horrific manner in his video for "Monster?" What I find more disturbing is that he DID think about it, and proceeded with this video anyway.  Read more >

Getting Your Blog House In Order

I had the pleasure of being a panelist at the Boston BlogHer ReachOut Tour. The women in our session were amazing, and asked equally amazing questions. Since our focus was helping people feel comfortable with hacking, coding, or just plain starting a blog, I came up with an analogy to help the women in my group feel more comfortable with the basic terminology. About Me:

I've been blogging at Knotty Yarn since 2003. I'm a dedicated feminist, freelance writer and (at the age of 33) a full-time, non-traditional college student. My first book, Tales from Fish Camp, was published in 2004, and my writing has been featured in several publications including Cringe: Teenage Diaries, Journals, Notes, Letters, Poems, and Abandoned Rock Operas, Rivet Magazine, and Kitchen Sink Magazine, among others. I was a featured speaker at Blogher’s Community Keynote, and I'm particularly passionate about women’s issues. I've driven across the United States a couple of times, and James Sime once called me “the Johnny Cash of girls.” You can learn more about me at Knotty Yarn.
