"The Good Wife" Is Getting GOOD

Are you watching The Good Wife? If not, I don't know why not, and I don't understand why it fares so poorly on cancellation indices. It's among the best shows. It's a constant delight because of the genius guest casting choices (hello Carrie Preston), and features some of the strongest and most engaging female characters anywhere. ...more

5 TV-Inspired Halloween Costumes

Pop culture Halloween costumes are the best. Sure, the classic monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein, George Bush) have their fans, and I wouldn't deny a trick-or-treating archetype (devil, pirate) his miniature box of Dots. ...more

Coffee Shop Carrie: Do Viral Videos Ever Go Too Far?

What do you think of this movie promotion for the remake of Stephen King's Carrie?  The movie focuses on a young woman with telekinetic powers. In order to harness the holy grail of viral publicity, the promoters made a stunt video. Of course they did, because ever-escalating stunts are super clicky on YouTube and in the "you've got to see this" sharing world or Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.  And they are scoring, big time....more
I absolutely loved this stunt. If I was in that coffee shop, I'd be giddy - until I found out ...more

Sinead O'Connor and a Bunch of Other Celebs Have Open Letters for You

Here's the thing. It's hard to talk about this Celebrity Open Letter Problem currently in the news without invoking She Who Is a Wrecking Ball But Must Not Be Named. A certain young performer who has taken to foam fingers and naked pica snacking while hanging out on construction sites is seeking news coverage every day, it seems, and I don't want to add to that....more

Why Did the 2013 Emmys Suck So Bad?

Bummer. I was so excited for the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards, especially with Neil Patrick Harris as host. But the show was not a triumph. It feel as flat as a tuxedo cummerbund wound tight against Hollywood Man Spanx.  What went wrong? Why did the Emmys suck? Probably too little Tina and Amy, to start with. Well, boring performances by Carrie Underwood (singing the Beatles what?) and Sir Elton John (who I adore, but... ) did not help. ...more
Totally agree with everything. Most of the highlights of the night, for me, came from the tweets ...more

Racial Ugliness After the Miss America Beauty Pageant

Just when I had hoped the Miss America pageant would continue its slip into cultural irrelevance, Nina Davuluri was crowned as the new Miss America. Before the tiara was even firmly pinned to her hair, Miss America was setting social media abuzz with conversations about race. Tweets and Facebook posts trended. Marring the enthusiastic posts celebrating the crowning of the first Indian-American Miss America (and the second consecutive Miss New York to win the pageant) were racist slams and ill-informed comments about Davuluri's heritage.  ...more

Fraud or Funny? Kimmel Reveals Twerking Girl on Fire Fail Video Was a Prank

Jimmy Kimmel announced last night that he pranked the Internet with that "Worst Twerk Fail EVER - Girl Catches Fire" video.  You know, the one that everyone you follow plus their cousins shared on on Facebook last week.  The roommate opening the door? Fake. The fall, shattering the glass coffee table? Fake stunt with prop sugar fake-glass stuff. The mood candles creating a vanilla-scented stop-drop-roll situation? Total fraud....more

"Dancing with the Stars" Cast Announcement Pushed Me Over the Edge

I can't take it any more. The cast announcement for the new season of Dancing with the Stars officially has pushed me over the edge. The problem is I am not a Dancing with the Stars fan, and I'm not a hater, either. DWTS typically, blissfully flies under my radar unless they hook me with a particular cast member, but that hasn't happened since Chaz Bono foxtrotted off in 2011. But now, they've gone and invoked Rhoda....more
