Unabashed Road Warrior vs. the Pumpkin

I’m having a hard time mustering up the courage and energy to carve pumpkins with my kids while my husband is on a business trip. I’ve put off the task until tonight -- two days before Halloween – and I’m considering procrastinating even further, until tomorrow night, when Michael returns. Then, I’ll be responsible for only keeping his cocktail full. Funny what my brain can’t see me doing. Carving pumpkins? Nope. Tossing my kids in the car for an eight-week 9,600 mile road trip? About Me:
I am a journalist/author who turned a massive house renovation into a chance to spend summer on the road with her two kids, 7 and 8. We had to leave, anyway, with all that dust and the prospect of no runnng water, etc... Well, the reno never happened but we still took to the open road... and we're hooked. After spending two years writing my baseball book ("It Takes More Than Balls"; www.TheSavvyGirls.com) and spending the 2008 summer away from my family on a national tour once the book published, the time was ripe for some family time. My husband (and their dad, OK?...) is able to join us at various points, as vacation time permits. Like most families, someone has to pull in a regular paycheck. I'm no John Grisham, after all... royalties. Sigh. This blog will be about our trip planning, what we've found is the most affordable way to move around and still keep our sanity. I'll report on what worked for us and what were the big failures. Thanks for checking in and drop a personal note or comment if you get the chance. d.
