On Loneliness, Laughter and this Passion for Living ... a photographer writes

One of the more challenging aspects of my chosen career is getting up every morning and finding the drive to keep pushing forward ... alone. It’s the ‘alone’ that I struggle with at times. I often work 14 hour days or longer, as I tidy up loose ends while driving 3 new projects forward. I miss the office chat and the lunchbreaks, the structure of 9 to 5 and the stability of a weekly income ... those things that reassure a soul about their usefulness in society.  Read more >

News of an Updated Photo Gallery ...

One of the things that used to drive my first husband crazy was the way I would work over my writing ... over and over, asking his opinion, each time.He would sigh in the end, asking, 'But you've changed nothing ... have you?'And I would point out that I had taken out two  'and's' and added a 'the'.Why hadn't he noticed it?Yes, so we divorced. Not over that. I'm sure it was one of my endearing qualities ... but we won't vote on that.  I won't even ask him to comment here actually.  Read more >

An Extraordinary Man ...

You sense that your photography session might be different from all other photography sessions you have ever worked at, when the object of your attention pulls out the bottle of whisky and proceeds to fill up a shot glass for both you and your translator/fixer. And so it was with Ant, the 85 year old artist, choir singer and bugle player.  Read more >

On Silencing the Inner Critic ...

it takes courage to grow up and become who you really are. ee cummings I do rather good long dark nights of the soul ... I keep them fairly quiet, as they frustrate me, I despise them and they never last long.  However I have to allow them, as huge amounts of growth often occur, and I presume that they are the price I pay for pursuing a creative lifestyle; as opposed to a more normal stable and responsible life.  Read more >

About Me:

I'm a New Zealander, a professional photographer based in Belgium.  My last documentary photography project was 3 months in Berlin working with international platform for philosophy and art in one of Berlin's top museums.  I returned from Berlin in January 2010, ready to prepare the photography exhibition titled ' Liminal Spaces on Flanders Fields' , here in Belgium.  I love the mobile nature of my profession and the reality of being based in Europe.

I launched a new photography and travel website  in 2009 and I am currently preparing to take my photography career in new directions.  In 2010 - 2011 I will be inviting people to pop in through the backdoor of cultures I have come to know and love, via my much-loved networks of good people.  Destinations will include Antwerp in Belgium, Genova, Italy and Istanbul, Turkey.   Details to follow in the weeks ahead.

I'm excited because it's going to be  all about combining everything I love, photography, travel, people ...

Maybe I'll see you there ...
