A Taste of South African Wine Yields Thirst For More

Enjoying South African Wine

My family and I went to Cape Town, South Africa recently to explore nature and to see for ourselves where Nelson Mandela spent three decades in prison trying to liberate from apartheid. We came home wondering how we could get our hands on more of the country’s delicious wines.  Read more >

Women of the World More Vulnerable to Climate Change

Climate Woman

Solutions to climate change are usually discussed in terms of what's best for business or politics. But what's best for those who have the most to lose as climate change worsens? Namely, women, especially those living in the poorest regions of the world. Image: Xinhua via ZUMA Press.   Read more >

Visiting Cape Town, South Africa

South Africa

Cape Town, South Africa might not be the first place you’d think of for a holiday break, but it was almost the end of winter here on the cold and dark East Coast and my kids were facing a long vacation from school and work. Why not cash in our frequent flyer miles and head to the Southern Hemisphere? We all needed a drastic change of scenery.  Read more >

Skewers

When tourists visit Africa, they often go on animal safaris in search of lions and giraffes. But on a recent winter holiday to South Africa, my daughter and I were invited to go on a “taste” safari—with gold and ostrich on the menu.  Read more >

About Me:

Hi. I'm passionate about women using their marketplace clout to protect the environment. I believe women who spend their money on products and services that can benefit the planet can be the greatest force for environmental change in the world. I'm excited to see women empowered by using their purses to get the world they want. My new book, Big Green Purse: Use Your Spending Power to Create a Cleaner, Greener World offers dozens of ways women can afford a greener lifestyle while using their consumer clout to accelerate the transition to a cleaner, greener planet. In addition to writing books, I speak on college campuses and before many other audiences, and consult with companies and non-profit organizations. I also update my widget once a week with an affordable green living tip, and send out a free e-newsletter every two weeks. The One in a Million campaign on www.biggreenpurse.com is encouraging a million shoppers to shift their spending to products and services that offer the greatest environmental benefit.

My family -- husband and two kids, a dog and two cats -- and I live in the eco-friendly house we helped design and build 20+ years ago. I'd love to get your ideas for additional topics for BigGreenPurse.com. Take a look, then drop me a line. Also, please share your thoughts for the next printing of "Big Green Purse: Use Your Spending Power to Create a Cleaner, Greener World."
