I began my career as a DJ in the 1980's making mix tapes for my friends. Eventually I found the college radio station and 'officially' became a DJ at WRUV FM, in Burlington VT. I even had a FCC license. From 1989 until 1994 I worked in record stores, when there were still brick and mortar stores, including the now defunct Strawberries Music and Tower Records. Working in record stores allowed me to spend a lot of time with musicians, many of whom I dated. I managed a band for one of these musicians and co-founded a record label in Boston. After many late nights listening to bad music in clubs, mainly in Boston and New York City, I eventually left the music industry for graduate school and an entirely different career.
For the next 10 years, I DJ'd occasionally at private parties in New York City and continued to make mixes for my friends. It wasn't until May 2009, almost 15 years after leaving the music industry, that I decided to really engage again. I began with SWIK Music, a blog written for women, about women in music. A passion for music never dies and it's great to be back in the fray.
