(Why) Is "Spinster" a Four-Letter Word?

I am a single woman with no kids. I've been that way all my life. It's by choice, so it's a fine place to be. Eons ago, I would have been called a spinster. My best friend thought I was crazy, telling me some of the best and most intimate conversations happened in bed between couples. Dr. Phil even agrees separate bedrooms are a bad idea, so then why do one in four U.S. couples have separate bedrooms?
