When did libraries stop being a quiet place to read and study?  What happened to the good old days when dowdy librarians were sticklers for the rules?I attend a junior college, so I'm obviously not rubbing elbows with Ivy Leaguers, but a modicum of courtesy should be in order.  I was in the school library a couple of times this past week and both times the librarians themselves were the worst offenders.  They were so loud that their voices were not suitable for any venue, much less the sanctity of a library.  Inside voices, people!   Read more >

Some of my best friends are Jewish.  Like, seriously, because the wife is a Rabbi*.  It's funny, because I met the husband through a bike team I was on several years ago, and when we were getting to know each other I asked what he did for a living (he was a teacher at the time) and then the fact that his wife is a Rabbi came up in the conversation.  I said "so you're Jewish?", figuring a Rabbi would probably have to marry within the fold.  The answer was yes.  I don't think he rolled his eyes, but it was implied.  Read more >
