N K

I like to think I'm easy going and fun to be around.  I always want to write, but rarely make the time.  Not that I'm doing anything earth-shattering while I'm NOT writing, but the allure of Netflix or a good book or a nap are things that I can't seem to deny.  Hopefully this site will help me get into some sort of writing routine.

A Mother's Love

I posted this in another blog the other day and thought I'd share here as well:My mom made a mistake and told on herself the other day.  She is an intelligent woman, but like all of us, she has her ditzy moments.  And for some reason we never let her forget about them, so this one will be added to the family tales forever....more

My Ovaries Hate Me

I hope I'm not the only woman who has ever said that my gynecologist cracks me up.I had a partial hysterectomy last December, and everything was fun and games for a few months, until about six weeks ago when I started having abdominal pain.  This type of pain is hard to diagnose, so I didn't bother with it for a while, until it was Time To Deal With It.  There was no ignoring the hunched-over, sweaty, nauseated, moaning, pathetic pain heap that I had become in the middle of one recent night....more

Sounds of Insolence

When did libraries stop being a quiet place to read and study?  What happened to the good old days when dowdy librarians were sticklers for the rules?I attend a junior college, so I'm obviously not rubbing elbows with Ivy Leaguers, but a modicum of courtesy should be in order.  I was in the school library a couple of times this past week and both times the librarians themselves were the worst offenders.  They were so loud that their voices were not suitable for any venue, much less the sanctity of a library.  Inside voices, people! ...more

Court Jester

Recent topics in the news (hello, government shutdown) have made me realize that I am actually a non-essential government employee.  Does that cut me to the quick?  Not really.  I'm not that sensitive. ...more

Passover Sidelines

Some of my best friends are Jewish.  Like, seriously, because the wife is a Rabbi*.  It's funny, because I met the husband through a bike team I was on several years ago, and when we were getting to know each other I asked what he did for a living (he was a teacher at the time) and then the fact that his wife is a Rabbi came up in the conversation.  I said "so you're Jewish?", figuring a Rabbi would probably have to marry within the fold.  The answer was yes.  I don't think he rolled his eyes, but it was implied....more

Saturday Night Lights

Last year, I got a wild hair and joined a women's football team.  Full-contact, of course.  It was one of the craziest things I've ever done, and one of the best. I reconnected with a high school friend on Facebook who was a veteran member of the team, and I thought it would be a great idea to join.  Forget distance (the team is in a city an hour away), gas prices, time spent.......this sounded like something I needed to do.  I had never played a team sport and wanted to see what it was like....more

I saw my neighbor in the nude this morning.  Luckily, she's a woman and was not facing me directly.  I was a little surprised and a little impressed.  ...more

Change is Still Good, Right?

I have always liked change.  I dread being bored and change is exciting.  If I wasn't married to someone who is settled, I would have very probably left the city I live in for another one a few years ago.  New is usually fun and good. ...more
