Hi! I'm Julie, and I've been blogging long before that word existed. As early as 1999, I was publishing my foolishness on Angelfire pages and stoically enduring cruel, anonymous criticism, and flourishing in a vacuum of encouragement.
I started Vowel Movements, my nationally-focused poetry blog, in 2004, and hammered away at it for two years, carving out a readership and connecting with a wonderful community of poet bloggers, all of whom I adore. I've held especially tightly to my gay po-bloggers, who meet every year at AWP for lots of laughs and liquor.
In 2007, I created Gateway Groupies in order to pull my focus toward art, music, and indie culture in and around Saint Louis. My city is a vibrant cesspool of fascinating people and ideas, and I'm always looking for a way to spotlight St. Louis for outsiders.
Outside of blogging, I enjoy reading recaps of House episodes on Television Without Pity, reading reviews and interviews on Bookslut, reviewing submissions for River Styx Magazine, and working my day job at a small publishing company.
By day, when I'm not editing videos, developing online courses, researching books, and administering forums, I can be found on Twitter [@gatewaygroupie]. By night, I roam the sallow underbelly of St. Louis, searching for, and finding, the coolest, cheapest entertainment our city has to offer.
