Life Lesson 128: Intro: How do you Define Depression?

Recently, I’ve spent several long and sleepless nights deep in thought, trying to understand and in some way define depression.  In the midst of my sleep deprived search, I made many discoveries; not only concerning depression, but also about myself.  I’m neither a doctor or a psychologist, nor do I have any expertise in this area.  What I do have is many years of field experience (and some hand to hand combat training ;-).  I’ve experienced life and death, (not death pe  Read more >

Life Lesson 127: Waiting for the Light at the End of the Tunnel...

I think that most of us are generally seeking the light at the end of the tunnel, and I don’t mean the brilliant light you picture after death when your spirit is floating towards heaven (or at least I hope that’s where I’m headed… ;-).  The ‘light’ I’m talking about is different for each one of us.  Right now for some people, their light is graduating from school, getting a job, giving birth, paying off a loan, or finally getting time off and taking a vacation.  For oth  Read more >

Life Lesson 126: Try as you might, Life isn’t always Sunshine and Roses…

I’m sure you’ve all noticed I haven’t blogged in quite a while.  Unfortunately, I’ve had unwelcome thunder clouds that have taken a temporary residency above me these past few months.  I try never to get caught up in ugly thunderstorms, nor wallow in depression or self pity.  Read more >

Life Lesson 125: The Keys to Happiness

Over the past decades, I’ve learned endless lessons regarding life, hope, and happiness.  It was through experience that I learned one of life’s most important lessons- the Keys to Happiness.  I had it wrong all my life; I was expecting to find ‘happiness’ down all the wrong avenues.  As a child, outside of my family’s unconditional love, I thought happiness would come from all the things I desperately wanted.  So I asked for the coolest toys and latest fads, and of  Read more >

About Me:

Heidi Swenson is an MS Ambassador.  As an ambassador she is contracted to travel all over the United States, speaking to MS patients, their families and caregivers, and physicians about living well with Multiple Sclerosis.  She has taken this opportunity to turn her presentations into motivational speeches, inspiring thousands across the country.  As word spread about the impact she was having on the MS community, Heidi was asked to speak in front of thousands at her local National MS Society annual walk.  This is where she realized motivational speaking was her calling in life and became her passion. Prior to public speaking, Heidi led a very private life. Through her travels and speeches, Heidi found she could relate to almost every individual she met through some past experiences in her life. She began to open up and share about previous incidents in her life and how she had triumphed over them, had learned to focus on the positive, embrace change, and leave the past behind her.  This had an amazing affect on all she met.  Besides living with MS since the age of 21, Heidi has battled numerous difficult life experiences ranging from overcoming sexual and emotional abuse (as an adult), being a single parent for 10 years, the daily battles with several auto-immune diseases, weight struggles, depression; as well as severe financial hardships which led to loss of her home, car and eventually bankruptcy.  In the midst of all of this, Heidi came to discover the most important lessons of her entire life.  Heidi’s lessons on happiness, priorities, love, relationships, focus, change and so much more have become the heart of her talks.  She inspires people to reevaluate their lives, goals, priorities and helps them to realize what is most important in this moment.  For Heidi, life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning how to dance in the rain!
