Hi! I spend my days as the wife to my high school sweetheart and as a stay at home mom to a precious little girl named Norah who was born in June 2011 and a handsome little boy who was born in February 2013. I am a mommy blogger at www.themamamama.com

"I Can't Do My Homework Because We Have Termites," and Other Lies My Son Told

So then…I open an email from Tucker’s 6th grade teacher that says: “Dear Mrs. Perdu: Tucker did not have his homework today; he told me this was because there was a termite infestation at home. I told him he needed to ask you to write a note explaining the situation, but he said that his family did not believe in writing notes. However, since our homework policy is not to accept late work, I would appreciate a note or an e-mail when unusual situations occur so that Tucker can receive full credit....more
haha You totally should have sent that first note :)more

Please, Don't Touch My Child's Face

We were very lucky to not experience too many people trying to touch Norah when she was a newborn. We got lots of, "Congrats, she's cute" in the store but people politely kept their distance. Suddenly now that she's older that is all different. Now that Norah (who is currently almost 10-months-old) is old enough to sit in the grocery cart she is apparently free game. You'd think that seeing as I have a cart cover to protect her from all of the flesh eating viruses (shopping carts are where those are found right??), people would realize I'm one of THOSE parents....more
@jennifer.watson I agree, it makes a huge difference when people ask first.more

US Census Bureau to Dads: You're No More than a Babysitter

The US Census Bureau has decided that fathers watching their children is “child care” but when moms watch their kids, it’s parenting. No, really. All of that “it’s not babysitting, it’s parenting” when daddy “watches” the kids has apparently been tossed out the window and set us back decades. And by us, I am not just referring to the women who are somehow deemed the “designated parent” when both parents are present in a household, but the men as well. Apparently they don’t matter....more
My husband is much more than a babysitter. We very much co-parent our daughter. My husband would ...more

How My Son Turned a Swastika into a Sign of Peace

While walking with my 8-year-old son near our home in Manhattan, he spotted a purple swastika scrawled across a billboard advertisement. As I took in the complexities of the situation, my son uttered words that made my heart break......more
What a great lesson for your son. I too hope whoever did it sees what your son has done and it ...more

The Need to Be a Perfect First Time Mom

I often feel like I need to prove myself as a mom, especially as a first time mom. My guess is many moms have felt that way at one point or another. There are many times when I take comments personally that were probably not intended to be taken as a criticism....more
@JennaHatfield I guess we are our own worst critics right? more

The Unspoken Rules: Mommy Jobs vs Daddy Jobs

I’m not surprised that my husband sent our son to me to be de-boogered. You see, that’s one of the unspoken “rules” in our household: Mommy deals with all things green and gooey from the nose. I don’t know how it came to be that way; I just know that that’s how it is. My husband and I never agreed that this was a “rule.” It’s just a tacit understanding in our household. One of many, as a matter of fact....more
We never really discussed who has what "jobs" but they seem to have fallen into place by ...more

How To Make Your Child’s Hair Grow Faster

Believe it or not, this is a question that I get asked all the time! There’s no magical trick to making hair grow, because mostly it’s a matter of genetics. There are, however, some things you can do to help the natural process along and you may actually see your child’s hair grow faster....more
My poor daughter probably won't have much in the way of hair for a long time. She's almost 8 ...more

"Defriending" on Facebook

So, I defriended someone today on facebook. I don't normally do this, because I always feel like they are going to know and it's going to be awkward when we run into each other. But you know what? When you run into someone who is a facebook friend, and it IS awkward because they don't even say hello, then off the list they go!But I wish that there was some sort of drop down menu to select from when you defriend someone. If there were, I would like to add these as the optionsA. You are just too weird...more
I recently cut down my list by a lot. It had nothing to do with being ignored but on the same ...more
