Court Approves Settlement in EBook Price Fixing Case

On Thursday, September 6, 2012, Judge Cote approved the settlement between the Department of Justice and three of the major US publishers to resolve a dispute over price fixing allegations.   The upshot of this ruling means that Simon & Schuster, HarperCollins, and Hachette will no longer be able to restrict ebook sellers like Amazon from discounting ebooks.  ...more

What the Department of Justice Lawsuit Over E-Books Means for Readers

On April 11, 2012, the Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a lawsuit against Apple and five major publishers (Hachette, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Macmillan and Penguin). These five publishers are part of a group known as the Big 6; they are responsible for the publication of many of your favorite books. Stephen King is published by Simon & Schuster, for example.
