If one of you Human Genome scientists could just find them, I need someone to do some sort of a splice on my daughter because man, I am running out of ideas on how to make her more patient and extend her attention span beyond two minutes. South Pacific: Celebrating (almost) 50 years of interracial love

Growing up, my sister and I were fed a steady diet of George Bernard Shaw and Rodgers and Hammerstein. One of our favourite musicals of all time is R&H’s South Pacific. But I am ashamed to confess that I’d never realised the significance of the movie, until today. South Pacific, as many may know, is about an all-American nurse from Little Rock, Arkansas, who falls in love with a French man, and a young Lieutenant from Philadelphia who becomes smitten by a young Polynesian-French girl. The backdrop is World War II and the Allies are holding off the Japanese in the Pacific.  Read more >

With all this talk of disciplining your child with an even, firm voice, is it any wonder that some of us drink? The last week has just been nuts, as August is crunch month for the new cooperative preschool I’m helping to set up. Could not see the terms and conditions page after first log-on

I am using IE7 and I could not see the terms and conditions after the first log-on to accept it (was just a blank page). Had to use my friend's Firefox. Please don't tell me to switch to FF because I happen to like my IE :)  Read more >
