In the midst of writing a social media policy, I started compiling a list of reasons I block users on twitter. I do not auto-follow; I take a look at the tweet stream/account of each and every individual who follows me before determining if I will follow in return. Read more >

Information
I’m a full-time working mom with an amazingly supportive husband, John, and two boys John-John (11) and Justin (6). We live in the DC metro area. I work at a non-profit and provide chapter support (leadership training, conference planning, marketing, etc.).
I’ve been reviewing books for around 10 years now, but decided to take the plunge and create Jenn's Bookshelves in March of 2008. Reading has always been a big part of my life. Since I can remember, I’ve always had a book nearby or a book in hand. I began blogging about books because I love to discuss and recommend books.
My oldest son was/is an reluctant reader, so blogging has actually improved our relationship because I’ve been able to discover books that interest him. He now begs to read each night; that brings such joy to my life!
In addition to reviewing books for my blog, I also review for Monsterlibrarian.com, a “source for readers of horror fiction to find another book to read and a source for librarians to develop their collections and provide readers advisory.”
Finally, I am an active supporter of indepenent bookstores. I lead a book club at my local independent bookstore, One More Page Books, as well as help promote their events.
I wanted to help spread the love for indie bookstores even further, so in August I created #IndieThursday, a weekly event on Twitter that celebrates independent bookstores. On this day, individuals are encouraged to tweet the name of the most recent book purchased at an independent bookstore, mentioning the name of the store. I'm hoping this effort helps increase the visibility of independent book stores!
