Jami Hepworth

Me in three adjectives: passionate, opinionated, tender-hearted.

I'm a twenty-something, old soul, LDS (Mormon), BYU alumna, wife to a first year med school student, and stay-at-home-mamma to one baby boy (out of breath yet?) and I've got a mind of my own! I thrive on sharing that mind with the world on my blog: "A Bit Backward. . ."

Will the "Secret Video" Spell Trouble for Mitt Romney's Campaign?

David Corn of Mother Jones today published "secret video" of Mitt Romney, which he reports was taped during Romney's appearance at a private fundraiser held by private equity manager Marc Leder in Boca Raton, Florida on May 17. In the video, Romney describes the "47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what" as "entitled" people who "pay no income tax." Romney tonight confirmed the video is of him speaking, noting that his comments were not "elegantly stated." ...more

Think You're a Stay-at-Home-Mom? Nope! Wikipedia Says You're a Housewife!

Words matter. A lot. The difference between “leak-proof” and “leak-resistant” could mean nothing, or it could mean a kid sitting in a puddle of pee because you picked the wrong diaper cover. That’s why we pick our words (and diaper covers) carefully. So consider this little tidbit from Wikipedia: If you search for “stay-at-home dad,” you will be taken to this page, titled, not surprisingly, “Stay-at-home dad.” Now search for “stay-at-home mom.” Go ahead. I’ll wait. You will land on this page, titled, “Housewife.” It doesn’t even use the words “stay-at-home mom” in the article until the very end....more
Yeah, Stay-at-home mom is a much more accurate description. I think, "Homemaker" would also be ...more

Celebrate Leap Day

Today is February 29th - Leap Day! I have never done anything to celebrate this 'holiday' but since I feel the need to romance and date my husband, I decided I would surprise him with a Leap-ful day after he gets home from work. This will be our very first leap year officially together. We actually started dating about a week after the last leap year in 2008!  Image: serenitbee via Flickr ...more

What If The National Debt Were Your Household Budget?

I admit to glazing over whenever someone talks to me in numbers greater than hundreds of thousands. I can't even really handle millions. I also admit to glazing over whenever someone wearing tea bags on his or her head demands we cut taxes after having driven to the rally on roads paid for by the government using, um, tax dollars....more

The Problem with Handing Out Happy Pills

There are a few things in life that really get me going.  I guess you would call them my pet peeves.  Today I was reminded of one of them as I spent some time on Twitter connecting with my friends. One of my friends lost her husband not too long ago.  It was a devastating loss for her.  My heart and support went out to her....more

Making Time for What You Love To Do

I have a scrapbooking hobby. Sort of. When my I was pregnant with my son, I bought beautiful linen albums, deckle-edged paper, decorative scissors that would make any kind of paper edge, a set of alphabet stamps, an array of colored inks, a paper and photo cutter, archival glue, pens, and a linen-bound box for keepsakes. Every once in awhile after he was born, I would stand in front of the closet where all this bounty was stored and just think about the beautiful scrapbook I would make....more

Welcome to a Month of Photo Tips on BlogHer!

I am the world's worst photographer. I'm not being self-deprecating. I really am. And I'm over it. Being utterly unable to record my memories at this year's BlogHer hobbled me -- personally and professionally. Also: Humiliating. THIS is my absolute best BlogHer '11 pic. Yeah, I can't tell that's Ricki Lake either. ...more
