Kara Paulk

I've always enjoyed writing and reading. When I was little my dad teased me about having ink on my nose and my 3rd grade teacher told my mom that she couldn't find a book that my sister and I hadn't read. The blessings of having parents who read aloud and a librarian grandmother. At Ole Miss, I majored in journalism and wrote stories and a health column for The Daily Mississippian. I loved working on a deadline and met many interesting people. My first job after college was as a reporter for the bi-weekly New Albany Gazette. I loved the town and people but the job was beyond bad. Bad pay, long hours and unhappy coworkers had me rethinking my vocation. I learned quickly why papers are filled with bad news: bad news sells. My proudest accomplishment is that they never saw me cry! Unfortunely, everyone else did. Now that I can smell newsprint without getting quesy, I can see the plus side--it lead me to two great jobs, good stories and made me a much better writer. My husband and I live with our two dogs in a white house with a red roof.
