A new threat to mental health? SIADD from too much technology

To begin, I am not a psychologist. (Nor do I play one on TV.) I would, though, like to propose that a new syndrome could be developing that might (or might not) be a placing a strain on one's mental health. I call it Self-Induced Attention Deficit Disorder - SIADD.   Read more >

Over-connected in a high-tech world

Thanks to technology, I have never been more connected in my entire life.  I think it's a good thing.  Maybe.  I find that I must tend to many "gardens", each of which takes time. Yet they bring rewards enough to continue my investments in them.  For instance, it's priceless to see photos and news of my grown children whenever I want to - which is often. It's time for egos to be put aside

I just finished reading "A New Earth" by Eckart Tolle.  One of the most enlightening aspects of the book for me is the concept of ego and how its need for "more" can cause so much dysfunction and insanity. It makes a lot of sense to me and has helped me understand and rise above several otherwise distressing situations.  Read more >

About Me:

I have 28 years of experience in the semiconductor industry. I joined Synopsys in 1995 as standards program manager and am currently senior director of community marketing. My primary responsibilities include initiatives and programs that increase customer satisfaction by developing communities for EDA interoperability, higher education & research, and executive & employee communication. I also held the position of director of quality at Synopsys for three years.

Prior to joining Synopsys, I was CAD manager at UTMC (United Technologies Microelectronics Center), responsible for the design system used to create high-reliability application-specific integrated circuits. Before that, I worked at Texas Instruments as logic analysis manager where I was responsible for the development and support of TI’s internal logic simulation products.

I lead the Synopsys worldwide university program which has provided technology, tools, and resources for teaching and academic research since 1986, helping to ensure that the industry is fully prepared to meet the integrated circuit design challenges of the future.

One of the electronic design industry’s first bloggers, I am the author of “The Standards Game” blog. I have published numerous articles on topics about standards and universities.

I am currently a member of four governing committees for standards of the IEEE whose mission is fostering technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. I'm also an officer on the board of directors of the Accellera organization, whose mission is to drive worldwide development and use of standards required by systems, semiconductor and design tools companies.

I was honored to be the recipient of the Marie R. Pistilli Women in Design Automation Achievement Award in 2002.
