Karien @ Running the Race

Wife.  Mom.  Runner.  Writer.  Traveler.  Health nut.  Celebrating life with a thankful heart!

A bit of sporty and family D.I.Y.

Let me just start off this post by saying that Will and I are not your typical D.I.Y. couple.  We're so not into spending our weekends tiling and re-tiling floors, putting up wallpaper and restoring old furniture.  It's just not our thing.  But, since moving to a new neighbourhood in September 2012, I've really been itching to put our personal stamp on our home.  You know?  Make it more "us"....more

2013 Running Goals: Progress Update

Can you believe that it's already middle-March?!  A quarter of 2013 is almost behind us!  Seeing that I've set myself exactly four running related goals for the year, I thought that this would be the ideal time to give you an update on how things are going:...more

Paying Tribute to the Winter Running Buddy

I am a huge wimp when it comes to cold.  I hate being cold. Hate it, hate it, hate it.  A strong word for strong feelings.  My morning can be ruined with a cold shower. I won't swim if the water is tepid and am often the buzzkill when it comes to late night night skinny dipping parties. Not that I've ever had one of those.  But if I were to have one, the water would have to be hot.  ...more
I SO need one!! :)more

2013 Running Goals

In 2011 and 2012 I selected a word for the year instead of making new year's resolutions - a motto of sorts to guide the way in which I wanted (and needed!) to grow.  I must admit that to this day I'm not a huge fan of new year's resolutions - I'm from the school of thought that believes that if you want change bad enough, you should take action and make it happen then and there.  No use in procrastinating until the beginning of a new week/month/year....more

And Yet She Runs

I went to pick up my daughter yesterday after track practice. She is a sophomore in high school and on the JV track team. I arrived early and was sitting in the car. As I was scanning the area looking for her, I spied a lone runner off in the distance. As the runner got closer I realized that it was my Emma. The other runners were far ahead of her. As she ran by me she gave a cheerful wave and said she would be done soon. As I watched her, it reminded me of how proud I am of her, of how her love of running is a mystery to me. ...more
What a touching story.  Your daughter sounds like a wonderful person.more
