For most people, today is the day-after 9-11. For me, it's the 10-year anniversary of a different life-changing event.I don't watch television in the daytime, and I rarely watch live TV. I learned about 9-11 when Mike came home from work early.The first thing I did was call Bill West, Sr. in Dawson, Georgia -- because his daughter, my best friend since high school, lived in New Jersey and worked in the financial district. Pet owners, according to most American airlines, have deep pockets.How else to explain the exorbitant fees they charge so that you can substitute your one carry-on bag for a bag that contains your small dog or cat? And the oligopolistic nature of the business comes through loud and clear when you examine the variance (or lack thereof) in the in-cabin pet fees.  Read more >
