 May 10 was the anniversary of our move to Asheville.  In the weeks before, I was a little worried that I might get overwhelmed; caught up in emotional over-reflection, if that makes sense.  The week ended up being really busy and I didn't have time to sit down and be dramatic about any of it, which was fine with me.   Read more >

Growing up, I participated in several different choirs and choruses.  My parents had a rule that I had to be involved in a music program each year, and I believe that if you google my maiden name, one of the first links is a quote from my graduation interview with the Indianapolis Youth Chorale.  I don't have a particularly lovely voice; I have a small range and hardly any character, but I think the Youth Chorale let me in because I could blend well and sing harmonies.  I liked it, but I've noticed over the years that without a lot of exercises, my voice has gotten weak and i  Read more >

My friend-of-a-friend (who's also kind of my friend except that we didn't really get to know each other well before we both moved away), Jessi, posted about this idea of giving up on good the other day.  The idea was that sometimes it's important to let go of things, even good things, for the sake of doing more important things well.  Underlying all of that is admitting that none of us can do it all, all the time.  Or ever.   Read more >
