America’s throw-away society…

It was with sadness that I read today about the closure of Adams TV in Fremont. Adams TV was founded in 1952 by by the current owner's father, a former radio repairman. The owner, according to the PI, said, ""We live in a throwaway society. It got to where I just couldn't fight that anymore." The sad thing is that he's right, we do live in a throwaway society. I know many people, for example, who throw out their old printer rather than purchase a new toner cartridge and who can blame them? After all, it's usually cheaper to buy a new printer than it is to replace the toner cartridge.  Read more >

When my brother Kevin and his wife were expecting their son, they decided to name the baby Elvis, my brother being a huge Elvis fan. My mother thought that this was a particularly bad idea. “He will be teased in school,” she said, among other things. That turned out to be a moot point as Kev and Liz home schooled Elvis until recently. The argument went on for months and eventually things went from bad to a “subject-not-to-be-discussed” as it just made everyone angry.  Read more >

A Roundabout Tale of Tea & Sillyness

I was at the nail salon getting a manicure a little while ago, when the power went out. Luckily, I was nearly done. I had to dry my nails the manual way. Yes, I blew on them. I couldn't pay for my manicure because the card reader was out with the power and I don't do those antiquated check thingies.
