A Hostess with U Street Chic

After a fabulous weekend full of vintage shopping (so many amazing finds I will blog about later this week), mani/pedis, and biding adieu to football season, I feel refreshed and ready to start the week. My colleague Lindsay Young reports on what appears to be a unique fundraising strategy employed by Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif. Rather than raise the bulk of her campaign funds from political action committees and individual donors, Waters sells her endorsement to other politicians and political causes, sometimes for as much as $45,000.  Read more >

On August 13, 2010 Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) read a statement and answered questions on ethics charges brought against her by the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE). The OCE alleges that she inappropriately used her office to secure a meeting regarding what would later become TARP funding for OneUnited -- a bank her husband was a board member of from 2004 to 2008 and was a stock holder in at the time of the meeting. Lacey Maffetone is the Media Partnerships Manager for the Sunlight Foundation. She leads Sunlight’s outreach to online media outlets, political and community focused websites, and other potential partners for Sunlight’s array of open government news tools, datasets and mobile and web-based applications. Prior to joining Sunlight, Lacey was the Office Space Manager at the New Organizing Institute, a Staffing Manager at Robert Half International (Fortune 500, NYSE: RHI), and served as the Press/Communication Assistant for the State of Florida's Attorney General. Lacey is an avid Florida State University 'Noles supporter and can often be found dancing barefoot in the Sunlight halls.
