About Me:

I’ve been a hard core Communications Nerd ever since I can remember. At the tender age of five I was reading stories out loud to my class and giving presentations to the student body, even though I was otherwise very shy. Really shy. So shy that the boy next door (my best friend) held my hand every day of school for the first several weeks because I was so bashful.

Since then I’ve gotten over a lot of the shyness and studied the dynamics of Communication from the most subtle interpersonal cues and neuroscience to how people communicate to create huge, sweeping Social Movements. Was such a nerd about it that they asked me to be class speaker for my Speech Communication major at the University of Georgia in 2008, after I went back to school with my newly divorced self and 3 treasured, active kids.

It’s my grand passion.

I founded Social Media Design in January 2010 and quickly began writing for Social Media Examiner, consulting, designing, and teaching people how to communicate effectively (and enjoyably) via Social Media. Since then I’ve written tutorials and opinion pieces for several notable publications, as well as speaking to help people build their businesses and successfully manage their reputations online.

Upcoming Conferences

Interop in NYC: October 3-7

Wispalooza in Vegas: October 10-12 (Keynote)

BlogWorld and New Media Expo in L.A.: Nov 3-5

SXSW Interactive in Austin: March 9-13

BlogHer’12 in NYC: August 2-4

I also have a soft spot for encouraging and promoting shy women writers and have a podcast, Literally Social, which teaches them how to build a social platform so they can publish successfully.
