Mother's day for the rest of us.

This Mother's Day, I was pleased to note the number of blog posts, articles, and stories celebrating the ordinary mom. Plus, I was happy to see a lack of magazines suggesting that I go take a bath with candles to relax. The recognition that being a mommy in these times is difficult is comforting and helpful.  Read more >

Discipline Disaster

So, we are trying to introduce time-out to my toddler.  This was a suggestion from the pediatrician. It seems to be going okay. She doesn't really get the whole sitting in the corner thing, but it seems to calm her down when she's having a tantrum. The problem is that she is having a toddler tantrum when we try to put her in time-out. There's a lot of thrashing, screaming, and arching her back going on. So, the other day, just as daddy is expected home, we have a tantrum moment. My daughter is not calming down. So, I tell her she is going to time-out.  Read more >
