Cheddar and Carrot Chowder with Broccoli

I don't want to seem overdramatic, but this soup might just be the most delicious thing you will ever put in your mouth.  For serious.  I started out by roasting two butternut squash, a large onion, and baby carrots.  When they finished roasting, I pureed them with carrot juice.  Next, I whipped up a batch of bechamel, and melted shredded sharp cheddar and white American cheese into it.  Then, the two worlds collided into one glorious pot.  Read more >

About Me:

Formerly a wild woman and raging teenage derelict, I am now enjoying the quiet, more domestic thrills life has to offer.  This includes the sensual hum of a sewing machine, the intoxicating aroma of my spice cabinet, or the feeling of moist potting soil between my fingers.  I am a professionally trained cook with dreams of food writing.

Though I was born in Bangor, Maine, I have also lived in a series of other exciting places including Yonkers, New York, Southwestern Connecticut, and Beijing, China.  These days I live in Austin, Texas with my husband, Scott, our lovable mutt, Gracie, and our two funny little cats, Ziggy and Pickles.

I'm also a natural and DIY skin care and soap making expert who writes under the pen name, Emmy Gabriel for The Natural Beauty Workshop.  I'm an experienced instructor, product designer, and social media coordinator for From Nature With Love and Natural Sourcing, LLC.

I am unabashedly obsessed with the following things, in no particular order:

  • Noodles
  • Photography
  • Changing my hair
  • Ice cream cones
  • Tomato plants
  • Tom Waits
  • Small plastic dinosaurs
  • Kewpie Dolls
  • Kung Fu Movies
  • Onigiri
  • Star Trek
  • Avocado
  • Videos of Cats on YouTube

Please feel free to contact me to chat about any of the afformentioned obsessions.  I do enjoy getting my geek on.
