What's wrong with "adopting local"?

Is it just me, or do others wonder why the Madonna's and the Bradjolina's of the world can't adopt children from their own countries?  I know the U.S. has plenty to choose from, and I'm guessing the U.K. does as well.  Why is it they feel the need to travel to other continents to adopt?  If I was an orphan in either one of these countries, I would be even more heartbroken to learn that such high-profile people would intentionally look to another country for a child to love and adopt.  Just my 2-cents worth.  Read more >

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Ring any bells? To the best of my knowledge, this right is something that applies to ALL Americans. I don’t think the Constitution says, “except for gays and lesbians”. Like most people, you may have a family member who is gay or lesbian or, at the very least, you know someone who is. Between Barack and a hard place...

Let me start by saying that I love my family, the one I was born into.  Even though I am the only Democrat in it, I love them all and respect their opinions, although they almost always differ from mine (and my husband's).  I am a 57-year old white woman and a die-hard Democrat and I can't wait until I can proudly cast my vote for Barack Obama!  He has inspired me with his message of HOPE. This country definitely needs change and he seems to be the one offering it.  Of course, in the presence of my family, I keep my mouth shut when I know that opening it won't change anyone's mi  Read more >
