Kelly Pugliano

Hi! My name is Kelly. I am a happily married (to the GREATEST husband in the world!) wife, a (sometimes, heck , most of the time, frazzled) mother of two teenagers, who has a passion for speedskating (yes, I compete and yes I have the muscle to prove it), cycling (I am an animal on the bike- reason #1 why I DON’T compete in cycling), running (for pure fun), Starbucks coffee (the stronger the better!), good food, beer and wine (need I say more?).

When I turned 40, I was consumed with a new obsession for O.P.I. nail polish. Not sure why, since I never painted my nails before then. However, it has created an unbreakable common bond between mom and daughter, so I will keep it.

I worked in the corporate insurance world for longer than I care to admit then moved into  non-profit association work, where I became a meetings & conference event planner, a  job I found to be both extremely challenging and rewarding.

After being laid off in 2009, I decided to take a break and figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote a children’s book that I will have published, someday. I also started Mom Got Blog to share stories on life as I see it along with the quirky ins-and-outs of daily life and being a parent of two active kids that have brought more joy to my life than I could ever express in words. So far, the journey has been pretty sweet! I have met some really great folks through my blog and for that I am so grateful.

What do I write about? Well, a little bit of everything-

Mom Got Blog will run stories on parenting, family, humor and daily life. Here you will find writing, photography, travel stories, how-to, and any reviews (books, movies, TV, products) that I find helpful in our household that I think you would enjoy too.

Mom Got Food will tap into my passion for cooking, baking and eating great food. This part of the blog was actually started under the name The Cook & The Baker, where I shared favorite family recipes. It was created for my kids so they would have the stories and the recipes they love written down. Somewhere along the way, more than family started following and I find that fascinating.

Mom Got Game will share my views and stories related to sports; being a huge sports enthusiast a lot of what I write has to do with what I like to play and my experiences with those that share the same passion. I believe that it is important for both your mind and body to keep as active as possible, for as long as possible.

So, Welcome! I am glad that you stopped by. Grab a cup of coffee and let’s get to know each other!  Stay as long as you like and please, don’t be shy! Let me know what you like or don’t like (in a respectful way) in the comment section.

The Color Yellow

Yellow. I was never partial to the color yellow. It never looked good with my skin color, so I avoided it at all costs. Until 2006, when my husband was diagnosed with testicular cancer....more

Long Road To A Marathon

I have signed up with the hubs to run the Pittsburgh Marathon.   According to the countdown clock, I have 14 days. I’m starting to get nervous. 13 years ago, I attempted my first marathon and at the half-way mark (13 miles!) I was pulled off the course. It was cold and raining and I guess when I walked past this point in the race, a volunteer came up to me and asked if I was ok. I said yes, that I was just cramping up a bit and was trying to walk through it....more

Crock-Pot Enchiladas Make an Easy Healthy Family Dinner

I have long been a believer in crock-pot cooking, especially around sports seasons. There is not enough time to come home and prepare, eat, and enjoy a meal in all of 20 minutes before racing off to the field. So, I rely on my slow cooker to help me through the busy weeknights....more

Perseverance is a Beautiful Quality

Perseverance Defined as steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles or discouragement. My first encounter with organized scholastic sports came as I entered my sophomore year in high school. Trying out for the junior varsity basketball team taught me a life lesson.  I learned at that young impressionable age that the emerging athlete inside me would have struggles, both physically and mentally....more

Top Five Ways to Fight "Blogger Block"

Are you staring at the blank screen in front of you? Is the blinking cursor putting you into a trance? Maybe you are lightly drumming the computer keys over and over? You have been waiting. Waiting for “IT” to come. You know. The thought. The phrase. A sentence. SOMETHING! You straighten up in your chair, take a deep breath and…. Nothing. ...more

My Freshly Picked Apple

I meandered through the perfectly spaced trees that lined the rutted dirt path. The woven wooden basket, balanced just so on bent fingertips. Each step had my eyes searching until I caught sight of the weathered ladder leaning against the stout trunk. This was the only time my mother actually encouraged me to climb a tree and this, in and of itself, made the trip worth it. I carefully climbed the paint worn rungs, aware of the buzzing bees that were busy at work sucking the last of the nectar for their honey....more
