What We Can Learn from the Penn State Scandal

Riled Up/Call for Change

Have you seen that video yet about the 16-year old girl that secretly taped her father beating her with a belt for 8 minutes? Me neither. Actually, I watched the first 30 seconds. A Warning to Society in General

I was speaking with someone today about their friend has schizophrenia. As she was describing her friend's delusions, a light bulb went off in my head - it sounded exactly like my dad, who sexually abused me from the time I was a little girl until I was 19. My family and I have always known something was wrong with him, but I think we generally attributed it to the alcohol. In retrospect, I believe he may have been secretly abusing drugs, but that is more suspicion that anything else.  Read more >

I've always been a fan of Audrey Hepburn. I love her exotic accent, her petite frame, her dark hair and the elegant way she carried herself. As a young girl in an abusive white trash home, she was as opposite as anything I could imagine. I remember discovering that we were the same height, 5'7", but that she was a scant 110 pounds. My freshman year of high school, I starved myself into 109. I was thrilled. Several years later, I read her biography. She still fascinates me, but still in a very aloof kind of way.  Read more >
