Permission to Say Goodbye

I have read so many web sites and books that talk about how to deal with the death of a loved one. Most of them say that you should tell your loved one that it's okay to let go. It's okay to die. My sister is wonderful at that. She has told my mom so many times that she is a good mama, a good woman, a great musician, and most importantly, a good Christian. She has told my mom this many times over the past week or so. Me? Not so much. I want to scream to my mother, "stay away from the light!"  Read more >

Helping Children Grieve

Probably one of the most difficult times to parent is during a time of grief. There is such a flurry of activity preparing for the funeral arrangements and greeting out of town friends and relatives. Or perhaps the death of a loved one is in a different town and it is your family with children that has to travel to the funeral. About Me:

I blog regularly at www.mydomesticchurch.com

I am a Catholic wife and and homeschooling mother of six from 3 to 19.  When it comes to giving birth, I have done it all!  Questionable Cesarean, VBAC in the hospital with a nurse midwife, two homebirths, emergency cesarean under general anesthesia, scheduled Cesarean and a stillbirth at 23 weeks.

My husband and I will have our 30th wedding anniversary in August 2009.  I will also hit the big 5 0 next year!

My husband is  self-employed business may who repairs musical instruments, but he also does many handyman jobs.  I am a medical transcriptionist, working in the early morning and late evening so that I can homeschool our kids in between.

We have homeschooled all of our kids since my oldest was in kindergarten. My oldest is now 20 yers old and is working as a certified emergency medical technician hoping to get into some firefighting training later this year.   My newest challenge is to help my high school sophmore earn as many college credits through CLEP exams as possible.  The other kids and I do history, science and literature together every day with math and language arts individually.  I really need my household to run smoothly.

We take our Catholic Faith very seriously.  No cafeteria Catholics here.
