My name is Myla and I am a teacher.
I have a degree in Education and I’d be happy to tell you that I’ve been working in the academic field since I left college but that is NOT the case. Earlier in my working life, I had worked as a corporate yuppie happy to earn a little bit more than an average teacher but after a while, I realized that it is not what I want to do for the rest of my life. I had left that particular comfort zone sometime in 2005 and flew to China to work there as a teacher.
I lasted just over a year.
And that’s not because I hate teaching but because of some other things like getting married and following my husband to the ends of the world.
After my short stint as a teacher in China, I became a full pledged housewife happy to serve her husband and watch him advance in his career.
Then we moved here in Austria and my husband thought that it is his turn to support me so it was him who urged me to go back to teaching.
It was not easy. Having a foreign degree means I am not allowed to practice my profession here in Austria unless I get my degree nostrificated. I didn’t like to go through all that so I gave up and got depressed. At some point, I was ready to take the next available job no matter what it was but my husband didn’t allow me. He said that after two years of putting my career aside for us, he owes it to me to me that I, too, should find fulfillment in my work.
With his encouragement, I continued to look for a teaching job. After three months of searching, I found a spot in a private learning center. :-)
