Bully

This is a cross-post from my blog, Wisermom.org (which I rarely update, but I was compelled to do in honor of the movie Bully opening tomorrow).   There's a new movie out and it's called Bully. It's tag line is "It's time to take a stand." Well, my stand it this: Please, if you can help it, do not let your kids see this movie without you.   Read more >

Babies of 2009 born to a baby of 1969

This entry has been cross posted at my blog, Wisermom.org, and was part of a blog carnival "Babies of 2009" hosted by A Very Good Year.  Read more >

Hi there, Just discovered this group and thought I'd join. My twin boys were born 1/22 of this year and it's been quite an ass kicking time. I am also a working mom, but my husband is a stay at home dad trying to finish his master's thesis. Hope to see some activity here from time to time! It would be great to have some other twin moms to run ideas/questions by! Regards, Myg http://wisermom.org  Read more >

39 years old, pregnant with twins, contractions at 25 weeks. Exciting, no?

I'm 39 years old and 25 weeks pregnant with twin boys after IVF. My medical team tells me, "You're pregnant with twins, get used to the Emergency Room."  I find this no comfort at all, but in the space of 10 days I was there twice. This story is about my brush with preterm labor (which mercifully was NOT preterm labor) and a couple of near-serious f*$k-ups that happened, even with what I consider to be top medical care. Cross posted from my blog, Wisermom.org. ***  Read more >

About Me:

I started here as one thing and now I'm another.

After four years of battling infertility, I am finally pregnant with my first childses. I mean twins. I'm 39 years old and have found the online resources on pregnancy over 35 to be largely depressing, so I've started my own blog, Wisermom. Wiser because I hate the term "older" or "advanced maternal age." Not that I'm in denial that I'm closer towards the end of my fertile days, but because I think language does indeed matter and because I know that I am far wiser now than I would have been trying to be a parent ten years ago. Wiser doesn't mean wiser than you or anyone younger than me. It's wiser than my younger self. I wanted to celebrate that and the courage of women who choose to have their children when they're ready.

My personae of Mygdala March is my Second Life avatar. I don't spend as much time in Second Life as I once did, though I do still thoroughly enjoy it and think it's an excellent platform for 21st centure communication. My Second Life blog, M is for Myg, is about my thoughts and experiences in virtual reality, with special emphasis on Second Life. I blog with friends and we cover everything from virtual politics to relationships to fashion.

My real life occupation is social worker, former mental health clinician specializing in work with kids and families, currently specializing in training juvenile justice and other mental health or child serving professionals on the topics of childhood trauma and suicide prevention. But I'm fairly burnt out and looking to transition into a career as a writer. I was an English major at UMASS, Amherst and originally wanted to be a novelist. I'm still hacking away at my first novel, too. Prior to getting my MSW I worked as a policy analyst for a NJ Governor (I'll leave out which one) focusing on children's policy, and as a policy researcher.

But of all that stuff, my favorite job front person and guitarist for my indie-rock band, which I did for two different bands from 1993-2001. And I still fiddle around with writing music too.

The best is ahead and I'm due in early February.

One adjustment to the "BlogHer conferences" info below. I participated as a quasi-speaker in Second Life (from my home in NJ) for the Second Life audience of the 2007 Blog Her Conference (telecasted from Chicago). I created and led an ice breaker activity for the group before one of the panels. And I was totally thrilled to participate.
