Lifted - Influences on Fiction Writing

As I work on my first novel, I worry about being too heavily influenced by other stories I've seen or heard or by music that I'm listening to. I think everyone might agree that originality is an important part in fiction writing, otherwise a writer could find herself in a situation similar to what happened to me in college. I recently posted an entry on my personal blog about my recent struggle with extreme laziness. It was somewhat hard to admit that I’ve been living in total disorder. My clothes are all over my bedroom floor. I have dishes sitting in the sink from Christmas. It’s just a good old-fashioned pigsty around my two-bedroom townhouse. I’m a 29 year old IT type girl that loves technology, politics, crafts, and television. I’m loud yet shy. I have a great set of friends and an amazing family. I guess I’m pretty much your average girl, with a few quirky personality traits. I’ve been married, but that just didn’t seem to work out. My ex-husband-to-be is a great guy, but we just didn’t have a lot in common. We’re both growing and learning about who we are and what kind of partner we want, and I’m happy to say that we are good friends. So my life is open and full of possibilities.
