How to Make a Living as a Crafter

I have made a living as a crafter for close to 15 years. It has not always been easy. There were times I was poor, and there were times I felt rich. There were times without health insurance, and times when I was staying in hotels in Beverly Hills. The craft industry waxes and wanes like anything else. This, my friends, is why I always live by the motto that you need to have several financial irons in the fire at once. ...more
Very good advice here. In business speak it equals: "Diversify your income streams." and "Expand ...more

I Was Once A "90-Day Fiancée"

There's a new show on TLC called 90 Day Fiance that follows the lives of four engaged couples and the women are all coming from overseas. The women enter the United States on a K-1 visa (aka the "fiancée visa") and they must marry their American fiancés within 90 days of entry. If the couple fails to do this, then the woman/fiancée would have no other choice but to go back to her home country. The four women in the show are from Colombia, Brazil, Russia, and the Philippines. ...more

Sexual Responsibility and The Post-Breakup "Surprise" Kid

WARNING- This sh*t is about to get real and preachy. If you think sexual irresponsibility is cool, don’t read this.I’ve encountered this too often for it not to be a trend. It’s a horrifying fad to me and I’d like to call it out. I’ve dated several men who, post-divorce or post-long term relationship breakup, end up knocking up a short-timer and now have a kid. (I’m sure you’ve heard of Dwyane Wade and his relationship hiatus baby by now). ...more

1628 Likes and Why I am Shutting Down My Blog's Facebook Page

At the beginning of this year, I created a public Facebook page for my blog, Schmutzie.com. I did it because I wanted to create a more private personal profile so I could have at least one place online that felt less public, a little more sheltered. It wasn't long, though, before I started to regret that decision, because I realized that privacy on Facebook is harder to maintain than it seems, real engagement is difficult to come by on public pages, and Facebook's treatment of public pages has been undergoing a slow evolution that favours advertising money over content and engagement. ...more

Facebook Wants Me to Date Cowboys and Native Americans

Facebook is on a mission to hook me up. With one of the Village People apparently. Let me explain. For some time now Facebook has been “suggesting” posts in my news feed. When Social Media is Used as a Weapon

She had been unfriended and blocked, the adult casualty in the preteens' fight since neither girl is on Facebook herself.  Since the woman's daughter couldn't give my friend's daughter the social media cold shoulder, the mother did the dirty deed for her and not only disconnected herself from my friend but blocked her for good measure to send an additional little message: I don't want you in my life AT ALL. ...more
