Marilu Henner's super-natural memory

Yep, you're remembering correctly. Marilu Henner is the woman who played Elaine on "Taxi."But did you know she also has a super-human memory? Type, not amount, of fat decreases cognitive function in women

A study of 6,000 women (all over 65) found that changes in cognitive function were reflective of the TYPE of fat - not the amount - that they ate.Those who ate the most saturated fat (red meat, butter, etc.) had the worst overall cognitiion and memory over the 4 years they were tested.Those who at the most monounsaturated fats (olive oil) had the best cognitive scores.In addition, it's important to note that declines in cognitive function can increase the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's.  Read more >

Weak head & neck control at 6 months = red flag for autism and other delays

Something as simple as a "pull-to-sit" task appears to be a good screening for early detection of autism spectrum disorders, language delays and/or social developmental delays. In a study of toddlers, 90% of those with ASD exhibited head lag (lack of head control when being pulled by the arms from lying flat to a sitting position) when they were babies; 54% meeting the criteria for social/communication delay exhibited head lag.  Read more >

Just to clarify, I put the title in quotes because that was the actual title of the research on MedicalNewsToday.com. But it's pretty accurate. After all, IQ is just a measurment of cognitive skills (like memory, processing speed, attention, visual processing, etc.) and fructose slows down the brain and meory functions.The good news is, omega-3 fatty acids help cancel out the bad effects of the sugar. That's not to say you should have chocolate covered salmon; it's more about long-term consumption.   Read more >
