In the spirit of always pushing my brain to new places, my six-year-old son, Roan, threw this one at me over breakfast a few days ago: "I'd like to get my ears pierced. Ok?" "Nope. You're too young. Marriage: Why Can't I Walk Away From Dumb Arguments?

I suppose I just have to wonder, in the sobering light of mid-morning, if there is such a thing as the ability to walk away from these dumb dumb arguments. While engaged in these, I know how stupid it all is, how meaningless and that there will not actually be a medals ceremony at the end of it all, with me walking away with a tiara and sash of righteousness. I have been an English Teacher in Seoul, a Bartender in Japan, a Substance Abuse Counselor, Record Store Owner, Night Club Operator and Coffee Slinger (not all at once) in Utah, and an Events Promoter, Children’s Room Designer and Muay Thai Kickboxing Instructor in New York.  I've written for numerous sites about activities for families in New York City.

 

My own website, Pistols + Popcorn, won a Bloggie in 2009 for “Best-Kept Secret Weblog”, as well as the Nickelodeon Parents’ Picks Award for the Best Brooklyn Blog.  I live in Carroll Gardens in Brooklyn with my husband, our seven-year-old son and our infant twin boys. Busy? Me? Naaaah....
