Raising Supermom

I’m 28 and I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere with my boyfriend, Superdad and my son, Superboy. I’m 5’4″ and 2 years ago (2010) I weighed a whopping 300lbs. I was killing myself slowly with food.

It took a divorce and a serious injury for me to wake up and smell the cupcakes roses, and make the decision to live a healthy lifestyle. I started moving and eating healthy. To date, I’ve lost over 100lbs and continue to reach for my goal weight of 130lbs. I’ve lost all the weight naturally…without surgery, gimmicks, or diet pills.

I should mention that Superboy has a myriad of invisible disabilities; Autism, Sensory Integration Disorder, Generalized Anxiety, and an unexplainable Seizure Disorder. He’s 4 years old. Imagine what life must be like for him…

Because Superboy has many struggles in his life right now, we have made the long journey to getting him a certified service dog (aka. Superdog) which we got in August 2012 – he has changed all of our lives for the better.

Superdad isn’t Superboy’s bio-dad but he stepped up to the role without hesitation and without so much as blinking at the list of disabilities that Superboy has.

The doctor walks in to check on me, and the look of concern on everyone's face is alarming to me. ...more

momma needs her coffee (thoughts on autism & friendship)

I woke up this morning, and promptly wanted to go back to sleep. That has got to be a bad sign when you're ready to go back to bed before your feet have even hit the floor.I'm sure I'll survive stumble through my day without hurting anyone.I've got a list of things to get done for this birthday party on the weekend and to be honest I don't even know where to start. I wish I had started planning this months ago so everything was already in place and it was just a matter of setting it all out....more
