While I was pregnant with my oldest son, DJ, my friend Jenn told me, “You’ll know you’re really a mom when you try to catch his vomit in your hands.” I laughed as Jenn explained, grossed out by her statement. The previous week one of her children had been ill and her first instinct had been to try to catch the vomit before it hit the floor. “It’s not something I mean to do; it’s just something that happens.
