Laura Marushima

Aussie girl with Japanese husband living in Chiba, Japan with a baby boy born December 2009. Just trying to make sense of the crazy Japanese and Aussie worlds she lives in...

Love white wine, chocolate, the colour pink and a good book.

Hate daikon (Japanese radish), crazy old women in Japan who touch my baby (GIANT PET PEEVE!), liars and humidity.

I once ate a cockie (cockroach)...well half of one at least according to my mother. I imagine as a child I ate many gross things.

How did I end up in Japan? Good question. Basically came as a student and never really left....

Update on 30 before 30…

Because I have absolutely nothing else to report. Happy Easter though!! This was taken today behind our house- cherry blossoms are starting to fall from the branches and soon these trees will be covered in green leaves! Despite the warmer weather last week it was freezing yesterday and today hence the jackets! ...more

Spring in my step…

I don`t think I realized how much the winter and the cold days were affecting my mood but also how hard it was to have the kids sick one after another with colds, ear infections, flu, asthma and croup for what seemed like weeks on end. Both boys have been well the last couple of weeks and with the warmer weather moving in we are making the most of it by spending more time outdoors. Best to do it now ...more

30 before 30…

Today is my 28th birthday. I started this blog the April after I turned 21….hard to believe so much has happened since then. I like the idea of having a list of things to try and achieve before I turn 30. Some of these things have been on my to-do list for awhile or things we were already planning to do but it was nice to write them down and think about some other things I want to achieve. A ...more

Then & now…

It looks like for now I am blogging sporadically but only for Deb`s Listmania link up! This weeks topic sounded like fun- talking about our crushes then and now. I was born in 1985 so most of my first crushes were in the 90s. I know I had posters of these guys on my walls way back when…It makes me cringe a little just to see these old pictures!!! The backstreet boys ...more

Current season…

The prompt for this weeks listmania hosted at Home Life Simplified was to share your highs and lows , loves and hates of your current season. Deb is an American living in Australia so her current season is summer (and she is in Brisbane where I am from!) but my current season is winter so here goes: Love ...more

Breathe…

While I have written some goals for 2013 {the list lover in me can not help it} I decided that I would also choose a word for my year. Next month I turn 28…..Sometimes I look at my life and think how is that I am married, own a home and have two children when I still feel like a kid myself sometimes? Where is the time going? The last couple months have been hard for me. Nothing overly bad ...more

Shion turns 2…

Yesterday Shion turned 2 (just a coincidence that this post came straight after Noah turning 3!)…He is a smiley, cheeky little boy although not so little anymore!! I think the cheekiness started at birth with his shock entrance into the world 9 weeks early!! And just like that I was mum to two gorgeous little boys!! Here he is 10 days old – my first hold!! ...more

Noah turns 3…

Yesterday my oldest, Noah, turned three. Three years have passed since the frenzied car ride to the clinic in which contractions went from 8 mins apart to 1 min apart in a 3O minute time frame. I remember thinking he was so little and so perfect {and how the hell did he fit out of there?} ...more

Thankful…

Sometimes I like to remind myself why I am so lucky and why I have a lot to be thankful for. There is always something to be thankful for… ...more
