Sarah Lipoff

I am a teacher at heart and have a degree in Art Education with over 10 years of teaching experience. I was that preschool teacher that told you what was up with your kid (whether you liked it or not) and the art teacher that had students do the super-messiest projects in high school – and also encouraged them to think outside the box.

I’m a bit chaotic, foul-mouthed at times, enjoy having a good time, and love chocolate. Seriously. I love chocolate.

Along with being a parent, I am ceramic artist, wife to a photographer, daughter to awesome parents, and sister to an amazing woman.

Celebrate Thanksgivikkah with a gingerbread menorah

Well, if you haven’t heard, Thanksgiving and Hanukkah have melded together into Thanksgivikkah. And there’s no better way to celebrate than with a gingerbread menorah. I discovered this wonderful melding of deliciousness through Sweet Thrills Bakeshop, a collaboration of two Bay Area moms who believe the kitchen is the heart of the home and that sweet treats make everyone smile ....more

When life happens

I started this blog as a spot for sharing recipes, random thoughts, awesome kid-freindly art activities, and general musings about motherhood. I love how it’s grown and turned into something more than I ever imagined, but things have been a bit busy lately and keeping up So says Sarah… has definitely been pushed to the back burner. I’m lucky if I get a moment to stop by and brush off the cobwebs — much less hang out on Twitter or Facebook ....more

Tips for talking with your child about art

Creating art with your child should be a fun experience even if you’re not arty yourself. Keeping in mind that your child is making marks simply for the pure pleasure of it, and not worrying about the result, is an important part of sharing the experience with your tot. And understanding that things are going to get seriously messy is essential too ....more

Homemade Yogurt

I love yogurt. My daughter loves yogurt. I put yogurt in just about everything (see here, here, and here), so when we were at the bottom of the container the other day, and I was not feeling motivated to head to the store, I figured it was time to try making my own ....more

The Italian Street Painting Festival

Last weekend one of the hottest (in more ways than one) events in the Bay Area made its way back to the streets of San Rafael after a one year hiatus. We’ve been connected with the Italian Street Painting Festival for several years and it’s an event that really draws people from all over the area. Downtown San Rafael is taken over with artists transforming busy streets into sections of fine art that are eventually washed away and then paved over — which seems so sad in a way (but traffic accidents would ensue if they weren’t) ....more
