Empty Nester Down-Sizing Thirty-Two Years of Memories

Now that my three children have grown and flown the coop—sadly, they no longer fill the hours of my immediate world—I need to accept my new life without them and, even if reluctantly, move forward. As my children will undoubtedly be setting new roots elsewhere and begin collecting memories of their own, I realize that my husband and I need to make some important changes within our home, too....more

Face-to-Face with My Empty Nest Life

I am at last face-to-face with my empty nest life, even if I am still in denial. Today, my first day with an empty house, I want to remain tucked within my sheets, indulging in a flood of salty tears that have already soaked through and stained my pillow. I have no desire to open my eyes and indulge them to a surrounding wall of obvious sunshine and warmth outside. My heart is breaking! And this is only my first day....more
So that is what this feeling is? I don't like it. Make it stop! As mentioned above, it is nice ...more

TMI and not in a good way!

This seems to be the era of way too much information sharing.  And, I am guilty of that also.   While I tend to use more discretion with my online presence, in person is a totally different story.  This came to my awareness when I was shopping recently with my daughter.  For those of you with daughters (don’t have a son so can’t compare), you know that they are probably your most honest source of feedback, whether you ask for it or not.   ...more

Celebrating a Rare Occurrence, “Thanksgivukkah”

This Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 28, 2013, we’ll not only celebrate Thanksgiving, but this year it also coincides with Chanukah or Hanukkah [if you prefer] (some are still undecided)—a rare occurrence, to say the least. Actually, Thanksgivukkah (termed by many) this year takes place on the second night of Chanukah/Hanukkah, and this melding of celebrations hasn’t happened since the late 1800’s, and it won’t be seen again for another 1,700 years, in fact!...more

Educate Yourself on Symptoms for National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

When I first started writing this post, I had the idea to call it the magical powers of the ovaries and their influence on puberty, periods and menopause.  While my original intent was to focus on the wonders of the ovaries, because knowledge can save lives, I have switched gears so that the main focus of this post will be about ovarian cancer. ...more

When Expecting Fathers Are Also Nesting

Modern Fatherhood; expecting daddies that are also nesting, sharing in on the upcoming responsibilities of their newborn’s arrival, and making sure everything will be ready for their family’s expansion: preparing the clothes, arranging the room, and talking with everyone that will be involved in taking part on that unknown day and hour, a happy surprise to one and all! Fathers Nesting is a new breed of men; they are compassionate and involved, in tune with expecting....more
