6 Lies Stay-at-Home Moms Tell Themselves

I've heard it all before: stay-at-home moms with endless excuses, reasonings, logic and lies that we tell ourselves (and other people) of how and why we are the exceptions to many social norms. "I'm too busy as a SAHM to be able to do that during the day." "People should understand because I'm a SAHM." "Well, that's easy for her to do because she's not a SAHM." Ladies, it's all bull. It really is. ...more

Can I Ask Another Mom to Change Her Kid's Nickname?

I wish Evangeline’s family would pick another nickname for their daughter so it’s easier to tell them apart. I believe that going by the full name is off the table, but they have lots of other choices! We have run into confusion a couple of times with classmates/parents of classmates getting the girls confused. Nothing fatal, but still! I would hate for my girl to have her feelings hurt because of it. ...more

I Don't Care About Your Diet or Your Extra Five Pounds

It's that time of the year when everyone is abuzz with New Year's resolutions. They include "lose weight," "exercise more," "get healthy," and a million others in between. I'm not against resolutions, but what I do hate to see is an unrealistic attitude and approach on the losing weight one -- and the biggest offenders are women....more

Can Grandparents Be Too Involved?

Yesterday, my husband's parents asked if they could take our daughter to the parade in their city. Since we had a number of things to get done that day -- all of which would be easier without a toddler in tow -- it seemed like a great situation for all of us. Clara got to enjoy the day, as did her Grandparents, and we were able to get our stuff done. Why was I conflicted?...more

When Being a Foodie is NOT Cool

The latest thing seems to be being a foodie.  Eating food that we had never even heard of as children.  Taking pleasure in the best restaurants and the finest wines.  As the world has grown smaller, our choices have grown larger.  And that is a good thing. But as the foodie fad has grown, I've also noticed a backlash building.  One where people are verbally attacked for where they ate dinner or what their menu consisted of that night.  And that is decidedly NOT cool!...more
