Turning pain into gain - The So You've Been Dumped Documentary

Centuries ago, Lao-Tzu said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". My journey took a rather an unexpected turn just before I reached forty. I was on the radio six nights a week in Glasgow, (which was thankfully offset by the daily commute of two minute’s walk), and despite the low pay, I truly loved my job. Potential news of the station changing ownership seemed crushing at the time, and meant it was an uncertain and sad summer, watching as colleagues jumped what was the radio equivalent of the Titanic.  Read more >

Break up lines that make us say... huh?

“I love you but I’m not in love with you”, “It’s not you, it’s me”, or how about “I just need some space”? Yes, we’ve heard them all before – haven’t we? Since launching soyouvebeendumped.com in 2000, thousands of lines have been sent into us from all four corners of the globe.  Read more >

So You've Been Dumped...

About Me:
Thea Newcomb is an American broadcaster and now film maker. Marrying her Scotland-based penpal, Newcomb relocated from her native California to Glasgow, Scotland in June of 1992. Since that time she has worked as part of the launch team at Q96 FM in Paisley in 1992, and then co-founded Bigwig magazine, “Scotland’s New Music Monthly” in 1994. In 1995 she joined SCOT FM in Leith and presented various weekend shows. Her marriage ended in 1995, and she embarked on a subsequent long term relationship with a co-worker. A few years later she wrote and published Essential 80s Pop Quiz (buy @ Amazon UK) - which still sells today. Following on from the second and a third (!) break-up, Newcomb launched this site on July 4, 2000 (not coincidently American Independence Day). Since that time, Thea has appeared in books, newspapers and magazines, and on TV and radio shows across the globe as an expert on the subject.* In 2005, Newcomb returned to Q96 to present night time shows, “Into the Night” and the new music show “Q’d In”. When the station was sold in October 2006, inspired by the film, Little Miss Sunshine, Thea decided to do her own road trip across America. Armed with a video camera, Newcomb travelled nearly six thousand miles across twenty states – interviewing people known only to her through her site which was the beginnings of SYBD - the Movie! With kinekter films, Newcomb is currently making the full-length, documentary film which will be about resilience. Look out for So You’ve Been Dumped the movie - 2009!
