Part Time Living

I work part time. Just a few hours every morning while my husband is home with our son. Even though I am home all afternoon and evening, I feel like I do not have enough time with my family. Our dear son naps 2+ hours of every afternoon, usually followed by a jaunt outside to get the mail and play outdoors a little bit, then dinner, bath and bed....more

Monster Cookies - Just in time for Halloween!

My son loves cookies. He's two years old and he's got the Cookie Monster act down to a fine art, complete with fingers wiggling and crumbs flying everywhere as he devours a cookie. I'm not exaggerating. Below is his favourite homemade cookie recipe. Today I substituted grated carrots for half of the apple. You can used raisins or any dried fruit....more

Taking Care of You + thismom's Ice Pop Recipe

Taking care of you. Taking care of me. I feel guilty for booking a 60 minute appointment with my RMT because Dear Husband wonders how to put our son down for his nap. Not his fault. Middle of the night wake ups. Every night.  Not to mention the other stuff that I seem to do most of. Like the laundry. The cooking. The cleaning. And l work a demanding job outside of the home every day.   I. Have. No....more

Flinging Flannel: The Day Daddy's Pajamas Went to Poop!

Today I did some mending. My Dear Husband saw me with a needle and thread (I'm hardly the DIY type) then disappeared upstairs and returned with a pair of lovely green and blue plaid pajama bottoms. There was a hole bigger than his bum in the crotch of these pjs, but he insisted that loved them and couldn't bear to part with them. Could I fix them? But no, I could not. As I mentioned, I am not much for these types of projects But something bloomed inside of me today and I had an idea....more

Sticky Sweet Rx for Needles?

My son just turned 18 months and hates getting his needles. Next week he is scheduled to have routine vaccinations and someone brought up the idea of giving him a mixture of corn syrup and water the minute before the needle. Is this idea meant to actually prevent or ease pain from the shot or is it simply a distraction from discomfort? Either way, it doesn't sound like a bad idea to me! What I'd really like to know is if I can just give my toddler a lollipop to the same effect? I think it would make him at least a little happier about the whole thing!...more
